How it works

Three steps, and a real person on the phone.

You don't need a diagnosis, a referral, or the right words. Tell us what's going on and we'll figure out the rest together.

1
Tell us a little Five minutes on the form or on the phone. Insurance details can wait.
2
We call you back Between 9am and 5pm. We'll say who we are and why we're calling.
3
You meet your team An assessment sets the plan.

Ready when you are.

Tell us a little. We'll call you back — between 9am and 5pm.

Our story

Hope is a clinical strategy, not a slogan.

We show up where people actually live — homes, schools, neighborhoods. Our clinicians reflect the communities they serve, and our teams stay long enough to be recognized at the grocery store.

That's what the doorway to community change looks like in practice: one family at a time, in the places they already are.

Programs

Ten services, one team behind them.

Services are recommended by your clinician based on a Comprehensive Clinical Assessment, so you don't have to know which one you need. We accept NC Medicaid and other insurances, and offer self-pay with a sliding fee scale. If you're not sure where to begin, call us — sorting that out is our job, not yours.

Services are individualized based on each person's assessed needs, goals, and Person-Centered Plan. Eligibility and coverage requirements may vary by payer.

Our story

We built the agency we wished our families had.

A United Community is a Critical Access Behavioral Health Agency serving central North Carolina — CARF accredited, NC Medicaid enrolled, and staffed by people from the communities we serve.

Mission

To provide person-centered behavioral health care that meets people where they are, strengthens individuals and families, and builds the skills needed for greater independence, stability, and well-being.

Vision

A North Carolina where behavioral health care is accessible, compassionate, close to home, and free from stigma, so every person feels supported in seeking the help they need.

What we hold ourselves to.

Person-centered Every plan starts with the individual — their strengths, their goals, their life. Not a diagnosis. Not a category.
Community-rooted We show up where people actually live: homes, schools, neighborhoods. Real connection happens in real places.
Strength-based We build on what is already working — find a family's strengths, name them, and build from there.
Culturally competent Trust is built when families see themselves in the people helping them. We recruit and retain accordingly.
Clinical excellence Our licensed and provisionally licensed clinicians exceed state requirements through in-house training and supervision.
Collaborative We partner with schools, hospitals, courts, and agencies — outcomes improve when everyone pulls the same direction.
Leadership

The people accountable for this work.

Lisa Bradley Chief Executive Officer · Quality Assurance & Quality Improvement Training Director

Aprille Lumpkin Chief Operating Officer

16+ years in business strategy, systems development, and community engagement. Aprille owns the operational infrastructure that lets AUC scale with integrity — process, accountability, outreach, and partnerships.

Edward Lumpkin Chief Financial Officer · Compliance Officer

Financial architect of AUC, bringing a disciplined, transparent approach to revenue management, payroll structure, and long-term sustainability — and oversight of the agency's compliance program.

For providers

Make a referral quickly. Hear from us promptly.

We only share what you approve

When the law requires us to share

There are narrow exceptions we cannot waive: a credible threat of harm to you or someone else, suspected abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, a court order, and billing information sent to NC Medicaid or your MCO so services are paid for.
